It is equipped with a 500KW,480VAC Cummins VT1710 engine generator with HEP receptacles in the rear of the unit. It is also equipped with 26L brake and an AAR style control stand with an enclosure for a Motorola 99 channel radio. There is a third air compressor located in the nose of the unit, which is powered by 480VAC and can be used for supplying air to the train consist when the engines are shut down. The HEP engine has been rebuilt and will be reinstalled, pending demand for service.

E-8 Type Locomotives Nos. MARC 60 (ex-NJT 4327), MARC 61 (ex-NJT 4325), MARC 62 (ex-NJT 4324) & ex-NJT 4258.
Engines 567 BC, 2 per locomotive. Generators D15B with D16 alternator. Auxiliary generator 18KW, 2 per locomotive.
Traction Motors D47 to D77. Gearing 55:22 (98mph). Glazing FRA Type 1 & 2.
Formerly used New Jersey Transit, ex-Illinois Central, ex-Pennsylvania Railroad.
The Locomotives were remanufactured in 1978 by the Paducah Locomotive Shops of the Illinois Central Gulf Railroad for the New Jersey Department of Transportation.
These locomotives were operated for only three & a half to four years and were prematurely retired because NJ Transit received an UMTA grant to buy F40's and retrofit their steam generator equipped GP40's with Head End Power.
Items rebuilt include the following, Engines, generators (main & auxiliary), traction motors, trucks, new wheels, braking systems, new Northeast Corridor cab signalling, air compressors, radiator, and electrical control systems. The units were completely rewired with Hypalon wiring. Straight welded sheet steel replaced carbody panels to eliminate maintenance.
Because these locomotives have two engines each, they are reliable. Should one engine fail, the other engine is generally sufficient to continue propelling the train, until the terminal is reached.
Most recently, one locomotive, MARC 60, provided reliable service for Maryland Commuter Rail in the Baltimore-Washington Corridor and to Brunswick/Martinsburg, WV on CSX. MARC 61, was readied for service by CSX for MARC at Riverside Shops. MARC 62 is also presently ready for service. Ex-4258 will be prepared for service as demand warrants.
All 4 locomotives are presently located at the Ohi-Rail Yards in Minerva, Ohio.
